Jay Leno Shows Off New $2 Million McLaren W1 Hypercar

If you’ve been keeping tabs on the total value of Jay Leno’s massive car collection, take note: it just increased by at least $2 million.

Though the former Tonight Show host is best known for his love of classic cars, he’s got plenty of newer rides in his garage, the newest of which being a yet-to-be-released McLaren W1 Hypercar. Leno dedicated the latest edition of Jay Leno’s Garage to the new supercar.

Before he even got started on showcasing the vehicle, Leno shared that he “was so impressed” with the car that he bought his own. It will join a few of its earlier brethren, including a 1994 McLaren F1, a 2010 Mercedes SLR McLaren, a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, and a 2015 McLaren P1.

Leno is a noted McLaren collector. In fact, his F1—which is estimated to be worth about $20 million, making it the most expensive vehicle in his collection—was the first McLaren imported to the U.S.

Given Leno’s long history with the British luxury automaker, it’s no surprise that the brand’s CEO, Michael Leiter, stopped by Leno’s Garage to highlight the many features that make this new vehicle so special.

“The briefing for this car was: the real supercar,” Leiter explained. Which to him is, of course, about performance. But, almost more importantly, he said, “It’s about emotion.”

The car is designed to make the best use of aerodynamics, which, to Leno, is what makes it so different and special from other supercars: the “smooth” ride. The car features a rear tail that increases downforce, which helps the vehicle better grip the road (especially at high speeds), providing for better traction.

Leno and Leitman spent the better part of a half-hour discussing the very specific design details chosen for the vehicle in great detail, if you’re into that kind of thing. Unfortunately, there was no chance to take the car for a test drive, as the prototype was a non-working model. The company hopes to finalize all the details ASAP in order to begin production on the W1 in early 2026.

The one thing the two did not get into was price, but here’s what we know: the base model is expected to start at $2.1 million. Though even if you were toying with the idea of buying one, you’re already too late. Though the cars won’t be delivered until 2026, all 399 planned units have been spoken for. (And we know who one of the lucky owners will be.)
