Skoda teases electric seven-seat SUV to sit above Kodiaq

Skoda is getting ready to fill a gap in its lineup, teasing a new three-row electric SUV.

While its Enyaq electric SUV is similar in size to the petrol-powered Kodiaq, it lacks the latter’s third row of seating.

This as-yet unnamed SUV will therefore serve as an electric counterpart to the Kodiaq.

The new model was first teased in 2022 with the Vision 7S concept, which showcased the brand’s new Modern Solid design language. It was subsequently teased again as the Space in April 2023, with a 2026 launch date announced.

It won’t simply be an electric Kodiaq. Not only will the new SUV feature a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform, likely the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, but Skoda has previously confirmed it will measure around 4.9m long – that’s up around 140mm on the Kodiaq.

Skoda confirmed in October 2024 it was rejigging its rollout of new EVs, with the Elroq launching in 2025, followed by the smaller Epiq SUV, and then the production version of the Vision 7S.

It said another EV it teased in 2023, an Octavia-sized wagon called the Combi, wouldn’t launch until 2027 or 2028.

The new teaser of the flagship SUV shows it hews closely to the Vision 7S concept, with distinctive T-shaped lighting elements front and rear.

We expect other elements of the Modern Solid design language, including clean, unadorned sides, to also feature on the production vehicle.

Likewise, elements of the Vision 7S concept’s interior may carry through, including a large, free-standing touchscreen but various physical controls.

In the concept, the touchscreen can rotate like in a BYD.

The launch of a three-row SUV will give Skoda a point of differentiation from other Volkswagen Group brands.

Audi and Cupra’s electric SUVs only have up to five seats, while Volkswagen’s three-row ID.6 SUV is exclusive to the Chinese market.

With the new flagship potentially not due until 2026, buyers seeking a medium-to-large Skoda SUV in the meantime can choose from the petrol-powered Kodiaq, a new generation of which is reaching Australian dealers this month, and the electric Enyaq, a facelifted version of which is due here in August.

The facelift will also usher in a second body style for our market – a more conventionally styled SUV – plus a potentially wider range of trim levels.
