Nobody likes pop-up ads. Nobody. That makes a recently discovered software glitch in some Jeep models especially frustrating for the people experiencing it. One Grand Cherokee owner recently vented their frustrations with the ads on Reddit, and owners of other models have chimed in with similar complaints.
The Grand Cherokee’s owner said they were served a relentless pop-up ad for Jeep’s “FlexCare Extended Care Premium Plans,” or an extended warranty. The ad shows up every time the vehicle comes to a stop, and the owner said there was no way to stop the ad or turn it off. It reads, “FlexCare Extended Care Premium plans are factory backed and offer you Peace of Mind in case of mechanical breakdown. Press the “Call” button to speak to a specialist. Odometer must be less than 36,000 miles to purchase.”
A screenshot of the ad shows options to call about the warranty or close the window using the “X” or “OK” buttons. Frustratingly for the owner, closing the window was only a temporary fix, as it returned at every stop.
If you’re a Jeep owner experiencing a similar problem, don’t smash your infotainment screen just yet. A Stellantis spokesperson told CarScoops that the ads were only supposed to display once and said that a software glitch had removed the ability to opt out. The problem is expected to be temporary, so it’s best to wait it out and take deep breaths instead of choosing violence.
