toyota recalls the latest generation tacoma over leaking rear brake lines

The new Toyota Tacoma is being recalled in the U.S. over an issue that can cause a brake fluid leak and a reduction in braking ability. Toyota’s recall impacts 106,061 Tacoma trucks from the 2024 and 2025 model years.

Recall documentation states that the problem exclusively affects four-wheel drive models with 16-inch brakes and 17- or 18-inch wheels. Trucks equipped with the larger 17-inch brakes are not impacted by the problem. The recall notes that the 16-inch brakes and related components, including brake hoses, are housed within the wheel. If mud and dirt build up inside the wheel, it can damage or wear through the braking parts, causing a leak and the potential for reduced braking capabilities.

Toyota was first alerted about the problem in the summer of 2024, when dealers started reporting problems with rear brake hoses leaking. The automaker’s testing revealed the problem in four-wheel drive Tacoma models, but it could not replicate the issue in rear-drive variants. While it did not say if there had been any crashes or injuries related to the problem, Toyota noted that it had received five field reports and 12 warranty claims.

Owners of affected trucks will be notified by April 7, and Toyota says it will reimburse owners who have accumulated expenses due to the brake lines leaking. Dealers will replace both rear brake hoses with a revised component designed to resist wear and tear during off-roading.
