Mechanics Name Car Brands With the Most Engine Problems

Car engines can present countless issues throughout your vehicle’s lifespan, and some brands are known for internal problems more than others.

If there’s an issue with your engine, chances are a mechanic has seen it before. The employees at Colorado‘s Accurate Automotive body shop chimed in on social media about which brands they believe succumb to the most engine problems.

“Fords,” one worker said.

“It depends on what you’re talking about,” another said. “If you’re talking about lifter issues, I would go with Jeep. If you’re talking about engine failure, I’ll go with Kia.” Another employee agreed on Kia’s faulty engine issues.

“They say that Land Rover is the most prone to having a lot of recalls and a lot of issues,” another added.

Earlier this year, the mechanics similarly named Land Rover and Kia among their top five most expensive car brands to maintain.

Consumer Reports‘ worst car brands for 2024 somewhat align with these evaluations. Of the 34 car makes examined, Land Rover sat at number 33 and Jeep in last at 34. They’re joined by Rivian in 30th place, GMC in 31st, and Jaguar in 32nd.

By contrast, Consumer Reports ranks BMW as the best overall car brand for 2024, followed by Subaru, Porsche, Honda, and Lexus. Meanwhile, J.D. Power ranked Lexus as the highest overall in vehicle dependability, marking the second year in a row to receive the honor. It was followed by Porsche in second and BMW in third.

As any mechanic might tell you, reliability is crucial when considering which car to buy.
