2025 Ford F-150: Australian arrival delayed for updated pickup

The updated Ford F-150 pickup will come to Australian showrooms later than initially planned, becoming the brand’s latest model to suffer delays.

Ford’s facelifted F-150 was revealed in the US in September 2023, just a handful of months before the pre-updated model commenced local deliveries.

At the time, Ford Australia said examples of the updated model would start arriving late in 2024, before moving the pickup’s launch to the first quarter of 2025.

However, this week the carmaker has announced its arrival has been pushed back once again, now to mid-2025.

It’s the third key Ford model to be delayed for Australia in the past year.

The Ranger PHEV was initially due to arrive in early 2025, but it’s since been pushed back to mid-2025.

Likewise, the new-generation Mustang was revealed overseas in September 2022 and was due to arrive in Australia from late 2023.

Its local launch was subsequently delayed to the first quarter of 2024 (January to March), then the second quarter (April to June) before being moved to the second half of 2024, with the first deliveries coming in July 2024.

As previously reported, the updated F-150 has been spotted in Australia in both Lariat and Platinum guise – only the former of which is currently offered, alongside the less well-equipped XLT.

Ford Australia has yet to detail what the facelifted lineup will look like.

Externally, the updated F-150 has a restyled grille, bumpers and lighting, including more three-dimensional tail light elements.

Newly available on the updated F-150 in the US is the Pro Access Tailgate, essentially a swing gate integrated into the regular fold-down tailgate that can open all the way out to 100 degrees.

The F-150’s Pro Access Tailgate avoids hitting the tow bar when opening, and it also allows owners to access items in the tub more easily. There’s also an available rear step to make getting up in the tub simpler.

A regular fold-down tailgate is still also available.

Inside, the entire Ford F-150 range now comes with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. The current F-150 range in Australia opens with an 8.0-inch instrument cluster screen and 8.0-inch touchscreen.

There’s also an available head-up display in the updated model.

It’s understood that despite there being three core engines available in the US F-150 range, Australian examples will continue to be powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 petrol, producing 298kW of power and 678Nm of torque.

It’s also understood RMA Automotive will continue to handle the remanufacturing process from left- to right-hand drive, despite a rocky rollout for the F-150 in Australia.
