Volvo Car Australia has confirmed it will roll out its latest software interface to some 35,000 existing vehicles later this year via an over-the-air update.
Speaking with CarExpert, local boss Stephen Connor said the update will bring vehicles “as far back as model year 2022” in line with the brand’s newest models.
“Volvo Car UX is aimed to bring all of our models to one look and feel to provide a premium customer experience – so vehicles as far back as model year 2022 will get the over-the-air update to bring our entire product line with the latest look and feel,” Mr Connor said.

While no official media release has been distributed just yet detailing the exact changes, we can get a preview of what’s to come via the above image – in the UK, the 2025 Volvo EX40 is being shipped with the enhanced system.
From the image sourced from the British online configurator, we can see that while the interior architecture and display hardware looks pretty much the same as before, the new user interface is clearly visibly on the centre touchscreen and even has modified the layout of the digital instrument cluster.
The old letterbox tile homescreen has been replaced with a more map-dominant setup, and there’s a couple more rows of shortcuts for widgets, apps and key vehicle functions.
Mr Connor’s confirmation of MY22 and onwards compatibility is down to vehicles from that time forward being fitted with over-the-air update compatibility.

New Volvo XC60 -
Mr Connor confirmed the rollout of the new Volvo Car UX will include approximately 35,000 vehicles in Australia, and more broadly 2.5 million vehicles around the globe.
This initiative is in addition to Volvo refreshing its existing core lineup with its latest software and technologies from its newer EX-badged lineup of SUVs.
Soon we will see the upgraded Volvo XC90 – which has been around since 2015 in its second generation – which will add the brand’s latest Google Built-in infotainment unit from the EX90 electric SUV, and the Geely-owned Swedish marque recently revealed a refreshed XC60 with similar upgrades.
CarExpert understands the XC40 lineup (including the EX40 EV) will also get similar running changes from the factory at some point, in addition to the S60 sedan and V60 Cross Country wagon. Soon though, owners of existing vehicles will be able to get the same look and feel via a software upgrade.
