The Volvo EX90 arrived for the 2025 model year, but it had a bruising debut, with software glitches and other problems leading to lawsuits and customer complaints. Volvo took the issues to heart, and for 2026, the EX90 received a range of upgrades that will hopefully set it on the right track.

The EX90’s most notable improvement was the shift from a 400- to an 800-volt electrical architecture, a significant upgrade that cuts charging times. The 2026 SUV should be able to recover 155 miles of range in 10 minutes, compared to the previous model’s 30-minute 10-80 percent charging time.

Volvo also revised the EX90’s infotainment tech, giving it a more powerful Nvidia processor and different software. The hardware can support advanced driver-assistance technologies, and Nvidia said it will eventually be able to manage Level 5 autonomous driving systems.

Other upgrades include a new road hazard alert system that delivers real-time notifications, and a new emergency stop feature that can stop the SUV if the driver becomes unresponsive. Volvo also improved the automatic emergency steering system, giving it after-dark capabilities.

These changes should address the EX90’s biggest issues, but it’s still unclear if the updates will motivate more buyers. The SUV is exceedingly expensive, and recent tariff changes haven’t helped its cause.
