Volkswagen Sets Pricing for ID.4

It’ll cost at least $45,095 for shoppers to get into a Volkswagen ID.4 this year – at least for now.

Why the qualifier at the end of that sentence? Because marketers at VW have only released pricing for models with the 82.0 kWh (77.0 kWh net) battery, with the less-expensive 62.0 kWh (58.0 kWh net) units set to appear at a later time.

Comparing apples-to-apples, that’s a $220 price delta from last year, a sum in line with inflation and typical yearly price hikes on all cars. However, an entry-level trim with the smaller battery used to be $39,735 before destination, explaining why some outlets may yell that VW has hiked the base price on an ID.4 by over five grand. The company has not yet released pricing for 2025 models with the smaller battery.

Elsewhere in the line, a rear-wheel drive Pro S starts at $50,195 and the AWD Pro S carries a sticker price of $54,095. Finally, the Pro S Plus is only available with all-wheel drive at a starting price of $57,295. Destination for all models is $1,425, which represents no change from 2024, so VW hasn’t pulled a sneaky on ya and increased prices on the back end. Each trim layers on creature comforts like a fixed glass roof and better seats on the S or tri-zone climate and a Harman Kardon sounds system on the S Plus.

The all-electric ID.4 had some hiccups as the calendar flipped out of 2024, with recalls and a stop-sale order throwing several wrenches in the mix. This caused a cratering of delivery numbers, with volume sinking by half compared to the year prior. Its fourth quarter was especially alarming, with 646 recorded sales; over 10,000 found new homes in Q4 of 2023. With that issue resolved and sales once again underway, we’ll be watching to see if the first quarter of this year makes up for lost time. Total sales at VW were up 15.2% last year to 379,178 units.
