The Volvo V90’s Days are Numbered

Pour one out for the death of another long-roof. Volvo plans to cut the V90 as it introduces a host of new models in 2025 and 2026, leaving even fewer wagons available for the dwindling number of Americans who love them.

Motor1 reached out to Volvo for confirmation of the move and was told that the automaker plans to discontinue the V90 for all global markets after September. The smaller V60 wagon will remain on sale, though for how long is anyone’s guess.

Volvo has hinted at several new vehicles, including an electric EX60 crossover and ES90 sedan. The automaker may offer an electrified V90 wagon of some sort in the future, but there’s no information on a potential long-roof model at this time. Electric wagons are even rarer than their gas-powered counterparts, so it’s just as possible that Volvo moves in a different direction. An executive said last year that it’s unclear whether an electric wagon would be popular enough to sell, so Volvo is taking a wait-and-see approach to developing one.

The V90 debuted in 2016 and ran for 10 years, though the XC90 retains the title as Volvo’s longest-running model. To commemorate the car’s ride into the sunset, Volvo is offering an Exclusive Edition for buyers in the Netherlands. It uses the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain and offers Nappa leather, rear air suspension, a Bowers and Wilkins stereo, and massaging/ventilated front seats.
