tesla recalls the cybertruck for body panels that can fly off

To put it lightly, Tesla is facing a few challenges right now, but it just added another line to its list of things to worry about. The automaker recently recalled more than 46,000 Cybertrucks for an issue that could cause parts of its body to fly off while driving.

The recall impacts 46,096 trucks built between November 2023 and February 2025. Affected vehicles may experience an issue where the adhesive used to attach some body panels could fail. Recall documentation states, “The Cybertruck is equipped with a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the vehicle, known as the cant rail, which is an assembly comprised of an electro-coated steel stamping joined to a stainless steel panel with structural adhesive. The cant rail assembly is affixed to the vehicle with fasteners. On affected vehicles, the cant rail stainless steel panel may delaminate at the adhesive joint, which may cause the panel to separate from the vehicle.”

Tesla confirmed that the issue is still present in current production trucks, but it should have a fix worked out soon. Unlike some of the automaker’s recalls, which can be addressed with a simple software patch, this issue requires a trip to a Tesla service center for an inspection and, if needed, a repair.

While it has received 151 warranty claims related to the problem, Tesla said it was not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries. That said, social media is packed with examples of owners’ partially disassembled Cybertrucks, so it’d be nice to have a fix soon.
