Earlier this year, Tesla released the updated Model Y crossover, but like many new models, it only offered a fully loaded launch edition vehicle to start. Now, the automaker is offering a “regular” Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant that comes at a significantly lower starting price.

The Model Y Launch Series is no longer available on Tesla’s website, leaving the new Long Range All-Wheel Drive model as the sole offering for now. It starts at $48,990 but lacks some of the Launch Edition’s feature set, including Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package, which costs $8,000 or a monthly subscription fee to add. That said, it’s eligible for $7,500 in federal tax credits, lowering the starting price further to $41,490 before options.

The Long Range Model Y offers a 4.6-second 0-60 mph time and a 327-mile range. Tesla also quotes a 125 mph top speed. While a more reasonable starting price is a great thing, it’s not hard to push the Model Y’s price tag in the opposite direction with options. The tow hitch package costs $1,000, and black is the only standard color. Others cost between $1,000 and $2,000. Beyond the $8,000 FSD package, Tesla offers a $420 home charger and a few other added-cost accessories.

That price makes the Model Y one of the more affordable EVs available today, even before tax credits are figured in. Despite that, it’s unclear if the Y will remain a global top seller, as buyers in many markets have begun turning their backs on the brand due to CEO Elon Musk’s politics.
