tales from the beat episode 97 two way vet eric mayne

Eric Mayne was the consummate auto scribe, writing for Ward’s, The Detroit News, the Windsor Star … then he jumped ship and became a respected PR guy at what’s now known as Stellantis.

Mayne recently retired and spoke with “Tales From the Beat” host (and TTAC Creator) Ed Garsten about making the jump, how his experience as a reporter helped him do his job on the other side of the scrimmage line, how eye-opening it is to see how some reporters operate from the PR POV, as well as his views of the current industry and where it’s headed. Check out the episode here.

Note … Garsten and Mayne were colleagues at both The News and the former FCA and great, old friends.

TTAC Creator Ed Garsten hosts ” Tales from the Beat,” a podcast about the automotive and media worlds. A veteran reporter and public relations operative, Garsten worked for CNN, The Associated Press, The Detroit News, Chrysler’s PR department and Franco Public Relations. He is currently a senior contributor for Forbes.

The TTAC Creators Series tells stories and amplifies creators from all corners of the car world, including culture, dealerships, collections, modified builds and more.
