Subaru Crosstrek, Impreza special editions announced

Subaru Australia has introduced special-edition versions of its Impreza small hatchback and its SUV spin-off, the Crosstrek, both of which raid the Japanese brand’s spare parts bin to offer mostly cosmetic enhancements.

The Crosstrek AWD 2.0S Onyx is priced at $43,890 before on-road costs – $1500 more than the 2.0S it’s based upon – and adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black lower bumper sections and a hatch-mounted black rear spoiler.

It’s offered in six of the Crosstrek’s nine exterior paint colours, including Crystal White, Ice Silver, Magnetite Grey, Daybreak Blue, Oasis Blue and Offshore Blue.

There are no changes to the Crosstrek’s 115kW/196Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol boxer engine or its continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which is also found under the bonnet of the Impreza S-Edition.

The Impreza AWD 2.0S S-Edition is limited to 100 units priced at $42,490 before on-road costs – a $3500 premium over the standard Impreza 2.0S ($38,990 plus on-roads) – but comes with around $6500 worth of extra accessories.

As well as a sports grille, there’s STI parts including black 18-inch Enkei alloys, front and rear under spoilers, and a black roof-mounted rear spoiler.

Inside, there’s an STI engine start button and STI shift knob as part of the special-edition treatment, while exterior paint colour choices are limited to Pure Red, Crystal Black and Crystal White.

The Impreza-based Crosstrek is Subaru’s second-best seller behind the larger Forester mid-size SUV, with the larger-still Outback the next most popular model in Australian showrooms.

Subaru will release its new-generation Outback later in 2025 following its reveal in April, although specific launch timing is yet to be confirmed.

The brand’s sales are down by 8.6 per cent year-to-date in Australia, where Subaru’s top-selling Forester is the only model showing growth (0.8 per cent) to July this year.
