Smart EVs recalled

LSH Auto has recalled 112 Smart electric vehicles (EVs) across the #1 and #3 model lines in Australia, after a rear seatbelt buckle fault was discovered.

“The rear double seatbelt buckles may have been incorrectly anchored. As a result, when the centre seatbelt is fastened the buckle could interfere with the left seatbelt buckle and potentially release it,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.

“If the seatbelt does not operate as intended, the occupant may not receive the full protection of the seatbelt system. This could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”

  • A total of 112 vehicles built in 2024 are affected
  • The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list is attached here
  • The recall notice is attached here

If you own an affected Smart #1 or #3, you should contact your authorised service partner to schedule an appointment to have the double seatbelt buckle adjusted, free of charge.

Until this is completed, LSH Auto advises owners to not use the centre rear-seat position until the double seatbelt buckle has been adjusted.

For more information, you can contact Smart via its Australian website.
