Less than a month after launching its new Elroq mid-size SUV, Skoda Australia has confirmed a stripped-back version with a smaller battery will join the range to become its cheapest electric vehicle (EV) yet.
The Skoda Elroq 60 Select is set to arrive in local showrooms in November, priced at $49,990 drive-away – $10,000 less than the previous entry-level 85 Select variant, and a whopping $20,000 less than the flagship 130 Years Edition.
The sub-$50,000 price makes it the cheapest European-built EV currently on sale in Australia by some margin. Skoda Australia director Lucie Kuhn admitted the introduction of the Elroq 60 was an easy decision in the context of Skoda’s powertrain portfolio, saying “there was not really a big discussion about it”.
“I think the battery makes sense. Firstly, it helps us bring a pretty good, interesting price point to Australian drivers. And the range is, I would say, pretty sufficient – 395km – which is actually quite good for that battery,” she told CarExpert at the launch of the facelifted version of the larger, pre-existing Enyaq mid-size electric SUV.

“I think the price is pretty appealing, and we are quite sure that it will be appealing also to the Australian drivers.”
Powering the Elroq 60 Select is a 63kWh lithium-ion battery, producing up to 150kW of power and 310Nm of torque from its single-motor, rear-wheel drive powertrain. Skoda claims a combined driving range of 395km on the WLTP cycle.
For context, the Elroq 85 has a larger-capacity 82kWh battery, peak outputs of 210kW and 545Nm, and a maximum claimed WLTP range of 529km.
The Elroq’s revised pricing means it undercuts the European-badged Mini Cooper E ($53,990 before on-roads) and Mini Aceman E ($55,990 before on-roads), both of which are built in China. It’s also cheaper than the Volkswagen ID.4 ($59,990 before on-roads) and the Kia EV3 ($47,600 before on-roads).

There are still several cheaper electric SUVs from Chinese brands, such as the BYD Atto 3 ($39,990 before on-road costs) and MG S5 EV ($40,490 drive-away), and it’s also worth mentioning the top-selling Tesla Model Y starts at $58,900 before on-roads.
Skoda’s budget EV trim isn’t exclusive to the Elroq either, as the facelifted Enyaq will gain its own 60 Select variant in November. It’ll cost $54,990 drive-away, down from $63,990 drive-away for the 85 Sportline.
The cheaper price doesn’t mean the Elroq 60 Select misses out on much gear either. In fact, a lot of it is shared with the 85 Select, including 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlihghts and tail-lights, and adaptive cruise control with travel assist.
Inside, there’s a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth and leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
