Pick of the Day: 2004 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon

There was a time when American automakers were happy to produce station wagons, but that was decades ago. Sure, Dodge made the Magnum over a short span in the 2000s and Cadillac produced a long-roof version of the second-generation CTS and Buick offered the Regal TourX in the 2010s, but the American car industry is not the land of wagons it once was. The good news is that the European brands sold here have made wagons for those in search of something more distinctive and capable of hauling cargo than a sedan. If you’re one of those people, take a look at our Pick of the Day, a 2004 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon posted on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Nevada.

The second-generation C-Class (aka W203), which spanned the 2001-2007 model years, was curvier than its predecessor and available in sport coupe, sedan, and wagon body styles. A variety of four-, six-, and even eight-cylinder engines were available during the W203’s run. The champagne ’04 wagon you see here wears C240 badging which—for some reason—equates to a naturally aspirated 2.6-liter V6 that was factory-rated at 168 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a five-speed automatic.

The cabin offers leather front and M-B Tex 60/40-split rear seating, a sunroof, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, dual-zone automatic climate control, and hand-polished Laurel wood trim.

Behind the second row is 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space that increases to 63.6 when the seats are folded down. A WeatherTech mat protects the carpeting while two netted side compartments provide small amounts of additional room. A cargo bar is in place to cover any hauls from department stores or keep the sun off of groceries. If even more space is required, the roof rails can be used to strap stuff down.

Judging by the 41,851 miles on the odometer, it seems this wagon has a lot more people and stuff to carry for years to come. If you want to make sure it lives up to its functional potential, you can do that for the $19,980 asking price.
