If you’re a vintage Ford Bronco fan and want to skip the years of busting knuckles and shouting obscenities that go into overhauling one, you can buy one from several shops, such as Velocity Restorations, that specialize in restoring them to their former glory—or beyond. Our Pick of the Day is a 1972 Ford Bronco frame-off restoration that has received modern conveniences and V8 power from ASC4X4. You can find it listed on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Los Angeles.

Some first-generation Bronco builds get out of hand and result in cut fenders, over-sized wheels and tires, and add-ons that obscure the simplicity that makes old Broncos so charming. If you ask me, ASC4X4 worked over this ’72 just the right amount. It has more presence, but it doesn’t scream for attention. The Los Angeles company opted for the appropriately retro combination of New Lime green for the body and Wimbledon White for the grille, the top of the removable hardtop, and the tailgate’s accent stripe.

There’s more Wimbledon White on the tastefully large 18-inch Detroit Steel Wheels, which feature Ford F1 truck hub caps.

A pair of AMP Research power running boards ease access into the cabin, which was decked out with butterscotch leather and tan cloth, a combination that coordinates perfectly with the exterior’s light green. It still looks old-school despite nearly everything being new or modernized. The gorgeous aftermarket wood-rimmed wheel is connected to power steering. There’s still a column-mounted shifter, but it’s linked to a 6R80 six-speed automatic. See those metal pedals? Pressing the one on the left summons the power of a hydroboost braking system with discs at all four corners. Whether the hardtop is on or off, the Vintage Air air conditioning and heat will keep everyone comfortable. If the sound of the highway or the gravel on the trail below gets old, the RetroSound Bluetooth head unit, four 6.5-inch Focal speakers, 10-inch Focal subwoofer, and five-channel Focal amplifier can pump out music that’s perfect for road trips or off-road fun.

Of course, ASC4X4 also made some upgrades to this Bronco’s off-road hardware. It lifted the body by one inch and the suspension by 3.5. In place of the old axles is a Dana 44 up front and a Ford nine-inch unit at the rear, both of which are equipped with a limited-slip differential. While those manage slip, a Dana 20 dual-range transfer case with a twin-stick setup, Warn front locking hubs, and 33 x 11.5-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires provide grip.

ASC4X4 made sure to upgrade things under the hood, too. Instead of an I6 or a 302ci V8, this ’72 Bronco has a 435-horsepower Gen II Coyote 5.0-liter V8 crate engine from Ford Performance. That would look great stock, but ASC4X4 went the extra mile and painted the engine and valve covers New Lime to match the body.

It’s hard to put a price on how much frustration buying a turn-key build saves you, but the seller of this nicely upgraded and modernized 1972 Ford Bronco found one for it: $175,000.
