Omoda O4 Ultra is a hot hybrid statement from Wuhu

Hot on the heels of global premieres for the all-new Omoda 4 small SUV, and the larger Omoda 5 hybrid and Omoda 7 plug-in hybrid SUVs at Chery Automobile headquarters in Wuhu this week, Omoda has now unveiled its most dynamic creation yet – the Omoda O4 Ultra.

Draped in striking limited-edition Electro Yellow paint and featuring several Lamborghini-inspired design cues, the Chinese auto brand’s new performance flagship signals a bold evolution for the fast-growing automaker.

While Omoda hasn’t confirmed market availability yet, the brand’s strong momentum in Australia makes local releases for both the Omoda 4 and Omoda O4 Ultra highly likely – as soon as late 2026.

Sharper, lower and more muscular than the standard version of the all-new Omoda 4, the Ultra incorporates a Chery Super Hybrid System (SHS) derived from the Chery Tiggo 4.

It pairs a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver combined outputs of 255kW of power and 525Nm of torque – 105kW/215Nm from the engine, and 150kW/310Nm from the motor.

Omoda claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds, while top speed is listed as 180km/h. That’s not rocketship-fast, but the Ultra is expected to bring spirited real-world performance when it reaches production.

Visually, the O4 Ultra commands attention with a huge roof-mounted carbon-fibre rear wing – which Chery says is the largest in its class and was “aerodynamically tested for maximum downforce” – featuring sculpted end-plates proudly bearing the Omoda name.

It sits above an aggressive rear diffuser and there’s a large front ‘air-splitter’ and carbon-fibre side mirrors, alongside a series of other aerodynamic tweaks that form a so-called “Ultra Aerodynamics” package.

Chery representatives said the Omoda 4 Ultra will have “the best aerodynamics in class”, while black 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped around gold-painted brake calipers complete the look.

Subtlety clearly wasn’t in the design brief, and the packed house of 1200 media and dealer delegates in Wuhu erupted in applause as the covers came off.

Beneath the flair, Omoda promises substance. The Ultra debuts several new systems: Performance Mode, Performance Sound, and Ultra Handling, underpinned by four-wheel independent suspension tuned for sharper dynamics.

Lighting has also been reimagined under the Performance Lighting banner, with distinctive LED signatures front and rear.

New driver assistance tech includes Super Easy Pilot, which employs five HD cameras, two radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic detectors to offer semi-autonomous parking.

Running it all is Omoda’s latest Super Easy OS, powered by a proprietary Super Language Model for more natural voice control and adaptive learning.

Despite the locked-door reveal, glimpses of the cockpit revealed an interior that matches the exterior’s drama.

A bright-red ‘weapons-hot’ flip-up toggle start/stop switch on the centre console (a cheeky nod to Lamborghini) dominates the minimalist layout.

There’s also a digital driver’s instrument cluster and a large central portrait/tablet-style infotainment touchscreen featuring a ‘Gaming Cockpit’ with 13 popular video games.

Textured trim inserts for the faux leather-clad sports seats, geometric door card detailing, carbon-fibre-look highlights, ambient interior lighting, and stitched trim on a three-spoke steering wheel complete the cabin’s sporting brief.

The Omoda 4 and Omoda O4 Ultra are based on the same platform as the Chery Tiggo 4, one of Australia’s most popular small SUVs.

If they’re sold in Australia, expect the standard Omoda 4 to arrive here before the Ultra, powered by a 105kW/215Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, positioned below the Omoda 5 and alongside the Chery Tiggo 4 – potentially priced from under $25,000 drive-away.

Both new compact SUVs would join the larger Omoda 5 small SUV and the larger-still Omoda 9 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) large SUV already on sale in Australia, where the newly revealed Omoda 5 hybrid and Omoda 7 PHEV mid-size SUV are also under consideration for release.
