Mitsubishi Outlander recalled

Mitsubishi Australia has recalled 7489 examples of the Outlander Exceed and Exceed Tourer trim levels, due to a fault affecting the SUV’s steering wheel touch sensors.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the steering wheel touch sensors may be defective. As a result, the vehicle may not accurately detect the driver’s hands on the steering wheel and the MI-PILOT system may not operate as intended,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.

“If the MI-PILOT system does not operate as intended it could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

MI-PILOT is a Mitsubishi driver assistance system incorporating adaptive cruise control and highway lane tracing. Mitsubishi Australia notes that customers should not use the MI-PILOT feature “until the repair has been completed”.
