Mitsubishi beefs up aftersales care for Australian buyers

Mitsubishi has added another feather in the cap of its Diamond Advantage program, with the addition of up to 10 years of roadside assistance for buyers.

The decade-long roadside assistance promise is now offered alongside 10 years of new-car warranty and 10 years of capped-price servicing, which the Japanese automaker packages together under the Diamond Advantage umbrella.

However, all three components of the updated program are conditional on the owner servicing their vehicle on time at a Mitsubishi dealership, based on the service schedule for their model.

All new Mitsubishi vehicles on sale have service intervals of 12 months or 15,000km – whichever comes first.

Buyers are initially given 12 months of complimentary roadside assistance after their new-car purchase, with that extending for an additional 12 months after each service at a Mitsubishi dealership – for up to 10 years.

Similarly, Mitsubishi’s standard new-car warranty is five years or 100,000km, but is extended for up to 10 years or 200,000km if the vehicle is serviced on time and within its dealership network.

Mitsubishi Australia’s latest announcement comes 21 years to the day after the Japanese auto brand launched its ‘5-10’ warranty, which initially offered a new-car warranty of five years and a powertrain warranty of 10 years.

While Mitsubishi has been a pioneer of long new-car warranties in this market, it sits behind two other brands in terms of warranty length.

In February 2025,Nissan announced its own 10-year/300,000km warranty, while MG rolled out its 10-year/250,000km warranty in late 2024, both of which are also conditional on servicing within official dealer networks.

Also like Mitsubishi, both Nissan and MG include roadside assist for the duration of the warranty – although only Mitsubishi states its roadside assistance program applies just to “new private retail buyers” and excludes “some taxis, rental, national fleet and government customers”.

Nissan Australia’s standard warranty remains at five years or unlimited-km, while MG Motor Australia’s remains seven years or unlimited-km, at least for private buyers of all models (including hybrid and electric vehicles). For MG vehicles used for commercial purposes – including fleet and business customers – MG’s warranty is seven years or 160,000km (again, whichever comes first).

And a different warranty for commercial vehicles including the MG U9 ute, which is backed by a five-year/160,000km warranty for commercial buyers, or a five-year/unlimited-km warranty – extendable to seven years and 200,000km for private buyers, once again if they service exclusively with MG dealers.
