The previous MG HS took on the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid with its Plus EV version, and now the new-generation model has the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid in its sights with a new Hybrid+ variant.

MG has confirmed some basic specifications for the mid-sized hybrid SUV, due here in the second half of 2025.

It claims fuel consumption of 5.2L/100km – understood to be on the combined cycle – for the front-wheel drive HS Hybrid+.

Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.

Here’s how that compares to key front-wheel drive hybrid rivals:

  • Toyota RAV4: 4.7L/100km
  • GWM Haval H6: 5.2L/100km
  • Honda CR-V: 5.5L/100km
  • Hyundai Tucson: 5.3L/100km
  • Kia Sportage: 4.9L/100km

MG also claims total system power of 165kW, while also noting a figure of 340Nm of torque. It’s unclear if the latter is just for the engine, given the smaller ZS Hybrid+ pumps out 465Nm.

  • QS and HS Hybrid+

Like the ZS Hybrid+, the electrified HS features a 1.83kWh battery.

Boot space is an unchanged 507L, and still expands to 1484L with the rear seats folded.

It’s unclear how many variants MG will offer of the HS Hybrid+, though it has shown off one example with tan leather upholstery, dual 12.3-inch screens, a surround-view camera and a wireless phone charger. This appears to correspond with the Essence trim offered in the petrol HS lineup.

In addition to launching the Hybrid+, MG has also confirmed it’ll launch a plug-in hybrid version of its new-generation mid-sized EV.

  • HS PHEV

This is also due in Australia during the second half of 2025, and replaces the old HS Plus EV.

While MG Australia has yet to confirm specifications for this model, in the UK the HS PHEV uses a 105kW turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated with a 24.7kWh battery, for total system outputs of 226kW and 432Nm.

By the end of the year, MG will have three hybrid models (MG 3, ZS, HS) and at least one plug-in hybrid with the HS, with the company also having trademarked the QS Plug-In Hybrid name for an electrified version of its new
Toyota Kluger rival.

That’s in addition to a growing contingent of electric vehicles (EVs) in the brand’s local lineup.
