Mechanics Name Car Brands That Are the Biggest ‘Money Pits’

Not all heroes wear capes. They sometimes have greasy hands and wear dirty clothes. And when it comes to taking care of the vehicles that get us from point A to point B every day, they usually know best about which kinds of cars are more (or less) reliable.

The TikTok account for Accurate Automotive, a neighborhood body shop in Northglenn, CO, recently posted a video asking its mechanics which car brands are the “biggest money pits,” siphoning cash out of your bank account thanks to frequent and extensive repairs. In the 22-second video, four mechanics didn’t hesitate with their responses and all came to a unanimous conclusion.

“Anything German. Anything German,” answered the first mechanic.

“Anything European,” the second responded. A third mechanic shot back, “BMW.”

“Anything European?” a person behind the camera asked, to which the third mechanic responded with, “Kinda, yeah.”

The fourth mechanic also didn’t hesitate giving European cars a low grade.

The TikTok account has an impressive 363,000 followers and nearly four million likes. And the reaction from its followers were mixed.

“These guys should note that they are talking about European models sold in US. There are Renault, Peugeot, Citroen that have very reliable models and they are sold in Europe only,” commented one follower.

Another added, “Only thing that’ll cost you more than a new German car is an older German car!”

A video from January 2024 triggered a torrent of responses—and more than 15.1 million views—when the mechanics were asked, “What car isn’t making it to 100k miles?”

You might not want to watch that one if you happen to be a Jeep owner.
