The NSW Police Force and Transport for NSW have been cracking down on illegally modified vehicles throughout the greater Sydney area, with their latest joint operation taking place in the western suburbs and sweeping up a raft of suspect vehicles.
In a post on its Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Facebook page, the NSW Police Force says it conducted an operation on Friday, November 21 targeting “unsafe and illegally modified vehicles” across Mt Druitt and Blacktown in Western Sydney.
The operation was also in response to reports from the community of burnouts and other dangerous driving offences.
Working with TfNSW personnel, NSW police officers inspected 45 vehicles and issued 20 infringement notices.

They also issued a total of 34 defect notices. While 10 of these were only for minor defects, 14 were yellow defect notices and 10 were red – the latter applied to vehicles deemed a safety risk, and requiring the driver to cease operating the vehicle until it’s rectified.
One cheeky driver who was slapped with a yellow defect notice had a windscreen graphic reading ‘Defect Notice Here’.
It wasn’t just souped up rear-wheel drive cars caught up in this blitz, with a pair of lifted J40 Toyota LandCruiser off-roaders also embroiled.
The operation follows one conducted just a few days prior on Sydney’s North Shore, where police said there’s a “high volume of modified and noisy vehicles that inundate the Milsons Point, Blues Point and Kirribilli areas on weekday and weekend nights”.
NSW Police Force, TfNSW and Environmental Protection Agency personnel were involved, with 13 vehicles inspected by TfNSW inspectors found to be defective and six receiving red defect notices.
Additionally, EPA personnel identified seven vehicles that didn’t meet noise pollution standards, while a total of 47 traffic infringement notices were also issued.
The NSW Police Force is asking the public to report dangerous driving online through its Community Portal or by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
