Hyundai raises i20 N and i30 N prices due to emissions regulations, new warranty

Hyundai has increased prices across much of its Australian model range by $250, coinciding with a longer new seven-year warranty, but its N performance models have copped much larger price hikes.

From September 1, the hot i20 N and i30 N hatchbacks are now $2000 more expensive than before, with the i30 Sedan N up by $1000.

Among Hyundai’s N models, only the Ioniq 5 N electric SUV avoids a price increase.

Elsewhere in Hyundai’s lineup, everything is up by $250 except for the entire range of electric vehicles (EVs), as well as the current Palisade large SUV which will soon be replaced.

“The N model price increase is [due to] a combination of warranty, NVES [New Vehicle Efficiency Standard] and European factory sourcing,” said a company spokesperson.

These performance models haven’t received any specification changes.

From September 1, Hyundai has introduced an additional two years of warranty coverage… provided you service your vehicle within its dealer network, and the vehicle isn’t used for commercial purposes.

If not, the warranty remains the standard five-year, unlimited-kilometre offer.

Hyundai says corrosion, paint and infotainment systems are included in this warranty, while high-voltage batteries stick with their existing eight-year, 160,000km coverage.

The i20 N and i30 Hatch N are sourced from Turkey and Czechia, respectively, where they’re now produced only for a tiny handful of markets including ours. They’re no longer offered in Europe.

The i30 Sedan N and Ioniq 5 N, however, come to Australia from the brand’s South Korean homeland.

Hyundai only offers the i20 hatchback in hot N guise locally, though the i30 Hatch N and i30 Sedan N sit among a much wider range of i30 small cars in our market.

Given they’re purely petrol-powered and the most powerful i30s offer here, naturally they have the highest CO2 emissions.
