Kia launched the three-row electric EV9 for the 2024 model year in the United States, but Hyundai has taken a bit longer to deliver its version of the popular SUV. That will change in 2025, as Hyundai just opened the order books for the Ioniq 9 in its home country of South Korea this week, and the U.S. won’t be far behind.

The Ioniq 9 starts at around $46,000 in the country, with prices that extend to around $54,500 in the top Calligraphy trim. Hyundai offers rear- and all-wheel drive, and buyers can choose from four seating configurations, including a super plush six-seat option with swiveling seats.

Like the EV9, the Ioniq 9 rides on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. It features a dual 400/800-volt charging architecture, which the automaker says makes the Ioniq 9 capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes at 350 kW speeds. It’s expected to offer up to 330 miles of driving range, but those numbers usually change in the U.S. due to differences in fuel economy and range testing cycles.

Hyundai plans to build the Ioniq 9 in the United States, which will help with tax credit eligibility and other trade-related issues, though there’s no telling how much longer we’ll see tax credits for new EV purchases. The automaker said it would launch the new EV in the U.S. at the same time as the refreshed Ioniq 5 EV, which gets a new off-road-y XRT trim for 2025. Both vehicles are expected in the Spring.
