Hyundai Inster deal sees $7000 slashed off baby EV

Hyundai Australia is advertising a new drive-away pricing offer for the pint-sized Inster electric vehicle (EV), with the base Standard Range receiving discounts of over $7000.

This nationwide offer sees the Inster Standard Range priced from $35,990 drive-away, representing a saving of $7288 based on a NSW postcode.

For reference, the MY26 Hyundai Inster Standard Range normally starts from $39,000 before on-road costs.

While not explicitly stated by the Korean manufacturer, this significant price cut is no doubt in response to increasing competition from Chinese competition, with the BYD Atto 1 able to be bought from as little as $26,500 drive-away in NSW.

While the base Inster is still nearly $10,000 dearer than the cheapest Atto 1, the Hyundai offers a more powerful electric motor and substantially more driving range (327km v 220km) – even more than the Atto 1 Premium (310km).

The Inster also comes standard with a number of features the base Atto 1 doesn’t have, such as LED headlights and alloy wheels – however, these bases are pretty much all covered with the Atto 1 Premium, which starts from ~$30,650 drive-away in NSW.

Despite much hype in the lead-up to its Australian introduction, the Hyundai Inster has so far had very little impact in the Australian market.

Just 467 units were registered throughout the 2025 calendar year – though the Inster only landed in June. Cheaper but larger rivals like the BYD Dolphin and MG 4 each managed around 3000 units, by comparison.

While Hyundai has taken the knife to the standard Inster’s pricing, the Extended Range and Cross models remain advertised at their regular list prices – meaning $42,500 and $45,000 plus on-road costs, respectively.

Is this discount enough to get the Hyundai Inster on your affordable EV consideration set? Let us know in the comments!
