Geely’s Australia-bound electric van packs luxury car features

Farizon – the commercial vehicle division of Chinese car giant Geely – has announced more details for its upcoming electric van lineup, due to go on sale in Australia this year.

As previously reported, the SuperVan cargo hauler (also known simply as the SV) will spearhead the brand’s local launch, alongside the H9E trucks.

While the vans will make their public debut next weekend in Sydney, Farizon is set to officially launch in Melbourne next month.

Farizon previously received approval for three wheelbase sizes across its SuperVan lineup, but has now locked in a trio of electric vans to launch with.

Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.

The Australian range will consist of one short-wheelbase (SWB) and two long-wheelbase (LWB) SuperVans, offered with low- (SWB and LWB) and high-roof (LWB only) configurations.

Below are the expected dimensions of each variant, based on both information provided by the company and approval documents filed with the Australian Government.

Each van will be powered by an 83kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which supplies energy to a 170kW and 336Nm electric motor driving the front wheels.

While full details are yet to be announced, the low-roof SuperVan is claimed to have a driving range of 376km on the WLTP test cycle.

It’s also the first electric van in Australia to feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing owners to power tools with the onboard battery.

Additional equipment includes “30 different safety features”, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, a surround-view camera, 270-degree barn doors, and both heated and ventilated seats.

While heated seats are becoming increasingly common in vans, ventilated seats are highly unusual for a commercial vehicle.

Previous information has suggested the SuperVan will be available with or without windows on its sliding side doors. All versions of the electric van will have 16-inch wheels.

Pricing is yet to be locked in, though given the SuperVan’s similar dimensions to the LDV eDeliver 7 – which is available in short- and long-wheelbase forms, with batteries of similar capacity – it’s possible Farizon will price its electric van in the $60,000 to $70,000 bracket.

The mid-sized electric van market in Australia is currently limited to the eDeliver 7, the Peugeot E-Expert, the Mercedes-Benz eVito, and the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo.

This year, Ford is set to launch the E-Transit Custom, adding another option for electric van customers in Australia.
