Ford is recalling around 300,000 Mustang Mach-Es globally for an issue with the 12-volt battery that can make it impossible to unlock the doors. The automaker has also told dealers to stop deliveries and demonstrations of the vehicles until it can issue a fix.

The recall affects 196,911 Mach-E SUVs from the 2021 through 2025 model years, and an additional 120,000 or so international vehicles. The problem relates to an unexpected discharge of the 12-volt battery, causing the electronic door locks to “retain their last lock/unlock status,” preventing the doors from being unlocked.

This recall action was discovered through a preemptive letter sent to dealers by the automaker, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet issued the usual recall notice and documentation. Ford said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, and spokesperson Mike Levine told The Detroit News that “a software update is coming soon to address this recall.”

As Automotive News pointed out, this recall adds to the pile for Ford, which currently leads the industry on recalls, with 76 so far in 2025. Early Mach-Es struggled with recalls, with the 2021 model recording 10 so far, but more recent model years have been much less dramatic on that front. The 2024 and 2025 Mustang Mach-E currently have one recall each before this one adds to the list.
