Ford Everest outsells Toyota RAV4

Not content with the Ranger outselling the Toyota HiLux since 2023, Ford has just scraped past the RAV4 with its Everest.

According to September VFACTS data released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), the Ford Everest overtook the Toyota RAV4 last month by just four sales.

Ford’s Ranger-based large off-road SUV took fourth spot on the overall leader board with 2558 sales in September, behind the Ranger, HiLux and Tesla Model Y, while the RAV4 rounded out the top five with 2554 deliveries.

While four sales is a tight margin, just six sales separated the final three top-10 positions on the VFACTS chart.

The RAV4 was Australia’s most popular SUV, Toyota’s top-selling model, and the nation’s second most popular model overall in 2024 – splitting the Ranger and HiLux utes – but despite this it was overtaken by both the larger and more expensive Everest and the similarly sized Model Y electric SUV last month.

However, September looks to be an outlier, with Toyota wrapping up deliveries of the current RAV4 ahead of a new model that will arrive in early 2026.

The Everest actually posted a sales decline of 11.9 per cent compared with the month prior, but the RAV4 was down a whopping 50 per cent – almost certainly due to dealer stock drying up nationwide ahead of the new model’s arrival.

In third position for September was the Model Y, which recorded a sales increase of 162 per cent compared to August, thanks to a surge of orders following the release of the updated ‘Juniper’ model.

Rank Model September 2025 Sales
1 Toyota HiLux 5047
2 Ford Ranger 4867
3 Tesla Model Y 3927
4 Ford Everest 2558
5 Toyota RAV4 2554
6 Chery Tiggo 4 2048
7 Isuzu D-Max 1989
8 BYD Sealion 7 1887
9 Toyota LandCruiser Prado 1885
10 GWM Haval Jolion 1881

Though the Everest is likely to continue to outsell the RAV4 for the coming months, the RAV4 is still ahead in year-to-date sales – with Ford delivering 19,480 Everests so far in 2025, versus 35,118 RAV4s from Toyota – and it’s likely only a matter of time before the new RAV4 retakes its spot on the podium.

However, as reported by this week, prices are set to jump for the forthcoming RAV4 by as much as $6000, which could see some buyers searching for a better deal elsewhere.
