Diego’s AutoHunter Picks

The cool thing about AutoHunter is that it has an open schedule, so you can always find something that will pique your interest without worrying about having to attend a four-day auction. Sure, maybe your computer is not as nice as a trip to Florida, but you can find an image of the golf course at The Breakers and use it for your screen wallpaper while imagining what you can do with the money you’ve saved.

The below four AutoHunter Picks are of different decades but they all have something interesting about them. Want to drive it daily? Want to stare at it in the garage? Something in-between? Have at it.

2023 Dodge Charger King Daytona Last Call
Whatever happened to succinct names? Any of the Last Call Dodges are interesting, but the King Daytona was created to pay homage to” Big Willie” Robinson, a “community organizer” of sorts who was a figurehead in the Los Angeles racing scene in the 1970s who founded the International and National Brotherhood of Street Racers.

Stats for this Go Mango car are 807 horsepower, 150 miles on the odometer, and one of 300 built, so it’s a prime collector piece for someone with the means.

 1970 ‘Cuda 383
Another Mopar. This could have been a Valiant four-door and I’d bring it to your attention anyway because “FJ5” Limelight with a white top (in this case, vinyl) makes me swoon. Aiding the elegance of this performance Barracuda model is the “A21” Elastomeric front bumper, giving the pony car a monochromatic look.

I like how it’s unfettered by the “hockey stick” stripes to give us a really clean take on a car that’s not often seen unfettered.

1966 Chevrolet Corvette L79
You can buy a racy-looking Corvette, or you can buy one that’s racy. To me, 300 horsepower (what was standard for 1966) wouldn’t cut it, but the L79 solved that problem. Introduced in 1965, the L79 was rated at 350 horsepower and was a screamer, giving the Corvette performance to match its looks.

With a four-speed (naturally) and an accessory hardtop, this Milano Maroon example is what I call the “compromise Corvette”: a nice sweet spot between horsepower and price, considering some Corvettes can get crazy.

1993 Honda Civic del Sol S
This is the kind of car that I wish Honda was building right now, but Honda goodness ebbs and flows (NSX, S2000, etc.). Nineteen ninety-three was the first year for this Civic CRX successor called the del Sol due to its removable top.

My friend’s dad had one and, many years later, he put it up for sale and was completely surprised by the number of interested parties that had responded. A little car with relatively fresh maintenance updates and a good engine that can be souped up to be a scorcher in this new world where Japanese cars are a thing.
