Can’t park there! Subaru WRX driver loses licence after getting stuck while drunk

A South Australian man has had his licence suspended for 12 months and his Subaru WRX impounded for 28 days, following a drunken crash which left the performance sedan stuck between two logs.

Just after midnight on March 10, South Australian police officers were called to a carpark near Botanic Grove in Campbelltown – north-east of the Adelaide CBD – following reports that a Subaru WRX had left the road.

The WRX was found wedged between two logs, with the rear of the car lifted off the ground and the front seemingly stuck under the other log.

Police breath-tested the 43-year-old driver, who allegedly returned a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of 0.180 – almost four times higher than the 0.05 legal limit for full licence holders.

South Australia classes a BAC of 0.15 or higher as a Category 3 offence, which for first-time offenders can result in fines between $1100 and $1600, six demerit points and a 12-month licence suspension – the latter of which police confirmed was issued to the driver.

The state also requires those who have committed a serious drink driving offence to have an alcohol interlock fitted to their vehicle once their licence has been reissued.

While the Subaru WRX was recovered, it’s being held by police for 28 days at a minimum cost of $1246.
