A new documentary has revealed the challenges, heartache and determination of one of Australia’s greatest rally drivers – and female motorsport exports – Molly Taylor.

Drive like a Girl follows the story of the brilliant Sydneysider who made her way to Europe as a 20-year-old and broke into the World Rally Championship (WRC) before cementing her place in motorsport history.

The daughter of six-times Australian Rally Championship-winning co-driver Coral Taylor, Molly Taylor broke the mould to sit in the driver’s seat and win the 2016 Australian Rally Championship.

Australia’s first female driving champion – and the youngest of all title winners – Ms Taylor also took out the inaugural 2021 FIA Extreme E series crown against some of the world’s most elite rally drivers.

Drive Like a Girl offers a genuine insight into the life of the professional rally driver, from the hard-won elation and euphoria of success to the disaster, disappointment and shattered dreams along the way.

Produced by award-winning Unleaded Films, it sheds light on how overcoming steadfast roadblocks as a woman in a male-dominated industry is about more than just pulling on a helmet and setting the pace.

“Sometimes, just being fast isn’t enough,” Ms Taylor said ahead of the film’s public debut on October 6, 2025.

“We wanted to show the reality of motorsport as a full-time job and the highs and lows that are part of the territory.”

“It’s tough for everyone regardless of gender. Crossing the finish line first is always the goal, but when you’re a woman competing for the top step of the podium, it isn’t always the biggest challenge.”

The documentary includes interviews with motorsport heavyweights, including legendary broadcaster Greg Rust and commentor Richard Craill, as it explores Ms Taylor’s journey in competition at the highest levels.

Drive Like a Girl will premiere nationally on 7mate and 7plus Sport at 11:00am AEDT on October 6,providing the perfect lead into Australia’s biggest motorsport event, the iconic Bathurst 1000.
