Despite the recent struggles of its parent company, no one can argue the Jeep Wrangler is synonymous with healthy off-road chops. For 2025, a new Backcountry package seeks to up the ante on the comfort-focused Sahara 4xe trim.

Alert readers know the Sahara trim has long been the pick of customers trading out of a more traditional crossover, accustomed as they are to additional tech and luxury features. After all, a healthy swath of the Wrangler customer base desires the off-road image but would rather not do without certain creature comforts. Attuned dealership sales staff point these ups to a Sahara rather than a Rubicon.

The new Backcountry package will layer a few dirt road features onto the Sahara, specifically the 4xe. Knobby all-terrain General Grabber tires, measuring a 32-inch floatation size (275/55R20 for the rest of you) will live at each corner of this rig, while its bumpers are swapped out for stout steel units generally reserved for gnarlier Jeeps. A set of rock rails are also hove under the door sills and a TrailCam peers forward to help spot obstacles. Requisite decals sprout from the bodywork which can be had in any of the existing available colors. A three-piece color-keyed hardtop and single-loop grille guard round out the visual changes.

Inside, shoppers will find features which are optional on the Sahara in some markets, such as the 9-speaker Alpine-branded audio system and navigation baked into the Uconnect system. Part of the Backcountry deal, and playing into its name, is the Jeep Power Box which can be plugged into the 4xe’s charging port and allow users to draw on the 17.0-kWh hybrid battery to juice small appliances or other electrical gear. In case you’ve forgotten, the Wrangler 4xe tag teams a 2.0L inline-four and hybrid guts to make 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Pricing is set at $66,185 including destination. Jeep says it plans to make 5,800 units for the North American market.
