AutoHunter Spotlight: 2006 Ford Mustang GT

In 2006, Ford put together a lighthearted commercial with a father and son re-creating a car chase using a car on a dyno and a big movie screen. Of all the vehicles in automotive history, the Mustang likely ranks at or near the top when it comes to family-centered nostalgia. Chances are, someone close to you has owned a Mustang. And if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this supercharged 2006 Ford Mustang GT. It is being offered by a private seller in Marion, North Carolina, and the auction will end Wednesday.

The pony car’s sharp exterior lines have been enhanced by a Shelby-inspired conversion, and the vivid Legend Lime paint finish is contrasted by black GT500 racing stripes. Among the many noteworthy features on the outside are front and rear spoilers, fog lamps, a Super Snake hood, side louvers, Cobra badging, and a polished-outlet dual exhaust system.

The fifth generation of the Mustang, sold from model years 2005 through 2014, went by the internal designation “S197.” It was assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan, and was offered in both coupe and convertible body styles. The automotive marketplace loved the car’s new lines (drawn by Sid Ramnarace), and sales went from 129,858 cars in 2004 to 160,975 in 2005. That uptick reflected a 23% increase in sales. Clearly, the car was a home run.

The main ingredient in the build list for this green machine is located under its hood: Power is provided by a 4.6-liter modular SOHC V8 that has been upgraded with a supercharger and is equipped with Ford Racing camshafts. Power is fed to the rear set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires via a five-speed manual transmission and a Hurst shifter. Despite being nearly 20 years old, the car has accrued only 13,744 original miles – a figure that is corroborated by the CARFAX report.

The car’s CARFAX report comes back with accident-free history that started when the car had just 2 miles on the odometer at Dale Jarrett Ford in Indian Trail, North Carolina. From there, it was subsequently relocated briefly to Tennessee and West Virginia before returning to North Carolina.

A period magazine advertisement for the Mustang GT said, “Nothing can make the miles disappear like 300 horsepower. It might be quicker as the crow flies, but it’s more fun as the driver flies.” Mustang history runs deep in American culture. If any car is going to help keep automotive enthusiasm alive in generations to come, this is it.

The auction for this supercharged 2006 Ford Mustang GT ends Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (MST)
