Australia’s most affordable seven-seater just got cheaper

Mahindra Australia is offering up to $3000 off its Scorpio large off-road SUV and up to $4000 off its XUV700 seven-seat mid-size SUV until December 31, 2025 – or while stocks last.

Buyers of the XUV700 – which was already priced lower than the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander – get the full $4000 saving, meaning a $35,990 list price before on-road costs for the entry-level model grade, making it cheaper than the Chery Tiggo 8.

As well as seven seats, it includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, leatherette upholstery, and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

The third-row seating is accessed by clever, one-touch tumble/fold second-row seats, and dual-zone climate control extends to the rearmost occupants, as do the curtain airbags and standard panoramic sunroof.

The XUV700 AX7L is also available for $4000 less than before at $38,990 before on-roads, and adds electric ‘smart’ door handles, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging, while the cabin also gains telescopic steering wheel adjustment, ventilated front seats, and 12-speaker audio.

Both variants are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine offering 149kW of power and 380Nm of torque, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels, with combined fuel consumption of 8.3L/100km and a 1500kg braked towing capacity.

Meantime, buyers wanting a seven-seat SUV with four-wheel drive and a ladder-frame chassis – like the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest – can save $3000 on the Scorpio until December 31.

Both the entry-level Z8 variant and the better equipped Z8L flagship are powered by a 129kW/400Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel mated as standard to a six-speed auto.

The Scorpio’s electronically selectable ‘4XPLOR’ four-wheel drive system includes a two-speed transfer case with low- and high-range gearing, and there’s also a mechanical rear differential lock, while braked towing capacity is 2500kg.

The Z8 comes with six seats as standard – featuring second-row captain’s chairs in a 2+2+2 layout – and includes keyless entry with push-button start, leather interior trim, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, sunroof and cooled glovebox.

The mechanically identical Z8L adds a middle-row bench seat – for the ability to carry up to seven occupants – as well as side steps, a front camera, 12-speaker Sony audio with subwoofer, and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

Mahindra has not had either model tested by ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) but told CarExpert earlier this year – when it launched the XUV 3X0 compact SUV – that it was aiming for all of its models to be five-star rated in 2026.
