Back in the early 2000s, it wasn’t all that hard to spot a hardworking Mary Kay salesperson touting their success in a pink Cadillac. It’s become a lot harder to spot the cars, at least where I live, but the program has continued and is expanding with a new vehicle. Cadillac recently unveiled its first-ever EV for the program, showing a pink Optiq at the Marky Kay seminar in Charlotte over the weekend.

I will admit to having no idea what Mary Kay’s products cost, but the company says its independent salespeople must reach the rank of Independent Sales Director to qualify for a Caddy, something only 1.5 percent of them achieve. The program currently offers a Cadillac XT5, a Chevrolet Equinox or a Chevy Trax, or the person can take the cash equivalent.

Company CEO Ryan Rogers said, “For decades, the Mary Kay pink Cadillac has symbolized accomplishment, aspiration, and the power of recognition. With the introduction of the all-electric Optiq, we’re honoring that iconic legacy while driving into a transformative future – one grounded in our commitment to sustainability and dedication to inspiring and celebrating the achievements of our independent sales force for generations to come.”

Mary Kay started the Career Car Program in 1969 and says that more than 171,000 salespeople have qualified for a car in that time. While there are very few here in Maine, Mary Kay said there are more than 3,600 Career Cars on American roads, with more than 1,000 pink Cadillacs.
