Ford is Recalling More Than 200,000 Vehicles. Here’s Why

Ford Motor Co. has issued a widespread recall of more than 200,000 vehicles due to a software issue affecting the rearview camera.

According to FordAuthority.com, the software defect may cause the rearview camera to fail, resulting in a blank image being displayed or an image remaining on display after the backing event has concluded.

“A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle,” said Ford Authority. “A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.”

Thankfully, there are no reported injuries or accidents as a result of this defect, which Ford became aware of due to owner complaints. Dealerships will replace the faulty software free of charge.

Owner notifications from Ford are expected to be mailed by July 28, and owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
