Hyundai brings EV fast-chargers to Sydney Motorsport Park

Hyundai has unveiled a newly branded rapid charging station at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMSP), which will remain a long-term addition available for all electric vehicle (EV) owners, regardless of their car’s make.

The fresh branding of Hyundai’s N EV Rapid Charging Station evolves from the two N Rapid Chargers installed at the track for the 2023 Hyundai N Festival and the national media launch of the Ioniq 5 N.

The installation is part of a five-year partnership between SMSP and the Korean brand.

Hyundai’s N-branded charging station features four type-2 plugs from a pair of 150kW DC fast-chargers, and is available to all EV drivers at SMSP.

The Korean brand’s local CEO Don Romano says the brand is proud to partner with one of Australia’s top motorsport facilities in the EV space.

“Hyundai has a long history with the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC) and SMSP, so we clearly knew they were the ideal partners to give Australia its first race circuit with dedicated EV rapid chargers,” he said.

Alongside Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland, where Hyundai has also installed EV fast-chargers, SMSP has previously played host to the Hyundai N Festival, the biggest event series of its type in Australia. The NSW facility has also hosted several media launches, staff product days, and the World Time Attack Challenge.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N owners are also provided with opportunities to utilise the western Sydney track, while the performance EV is also SMSP’s official safety car.

ARDC CEO Glenn Matthews said Hyundai’s presence at the circuit was ‘highly valued’, especially because of the brand’s contributions to promoting EVs in Australian motorsport.

“The ARDC has always been ready to actively respond to the evolutionary changes in the automotive and motorsport landscape, and together with Hyundai this partnership will further enhance our recognised credentials as Australia’s home of motorsport,” he said.

“The EV chargers are already making an immediate impact in helping to meet the current and future demands of the rapidly growing EV Automotive market, industry EV test days, privately owned EVs at track days, as well as supporting the many university Formula SAE teams that use SMSP for tertiary education and [research and development].”
