Queensland tour operator switches to Mahindra Scorpio

A Queensland tour operator has added a constellation of Mahindra Scorpio off-road SUVs to its fleet.

Drop Bear Adventures, which runs three-day guided four-wheel drive tours on K’gari (Fraser Island), has upgraded its fleet with six new Mahindra Scorpio seven-seaters as part of the company’s commitment to improve its sustainability, safety and environmental protection policies.

Founders of the award-winning tour company, Mark and Hana Robinson – affectionally known as Papa Bear and Moma Bear – carefully evaluated several options to replace a number of their ageing Toyota LandCruisers.

Ultimately, they selected the Scorpio for its exceptional off-road capabilities, flexible interior, proven reliability, and low operating costs.

Working in conjunction with Mahindra Australia, their vehicles have been specially modified to suit K’gari’s demanding off-road tracks and sandy beaches, so each Scorpio is fitted with a 2.0-inch suspension lift kit, reinforced underbody protection for the sump, fuel tank and AdBlue tank, and a front nudge bar.

“We tested a Scorpio under extreme load with about 500kg in the back and it handled the soft sand with ease,” said Mark.

“It didn’t bog down. It just glided over the dunes. That gives us confidence when our guests – many of whom have never driven a four-wheel drive – take the wheel.

“[Mahindra] understood what we do out here in K’gari,” added Hana. “Their support has been extremely helpful, and we feel like we made a really good choice.”
