2026 Kia EV2 teased ahead of January reveal

Kia has confirmed its all-new EV2 entry-level electric vehicle (EV) will make its world debut on January 9, 2026, at the Brussels motor show in Belgium.

Accompanied by some teaser images showing the vehicle under a dark sheet, with its silhouette and lighting signatures peeping through, the Korean brand’s media release says the new baby EV “combines emotional design with modern technology and connectivity, as well as smart EV features and a roomy and adjustable space”.

“With its eye-catching look and appealing body type, the model’s design expresses its progressive character perfectly exemplifying Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy,” added Kia Europe.

The angular, low-set LED running light and tail-light signatures echo the design language from Kia’s latest models like the EV3 and EV4 small electric SUVs, as well as the large EV9, while the boxy side profile is reminiscent of the old Kia Soul.

We already have a good idea of what the EV2 will look like, given the Concept EV2 shown at the brand’s EV Day in Barcelona back in February looked pretty close to production-ready, at least from an overall design standpoint.

Dimensionally, the EV2 will be the electric companion to the compact Stonic crossover, Kia’s smallest existing SUV. Kia has previously labelled the EV2 as a B-segment SUV, suggesting a length around the 4100mm mark.

It’s unclear what will drive the EV2 and which platform it will be based on, but CarExpert understands it will ride on the cheaper 400V version of the Hyundai Motor Group E-GMP chassis architecture that underpins the EV3, EV4 and EV5.

Sadly for Australia, it’s unlikely the EV2 will head Down Under as it will be produced in Kia Europe’s Slovakian factory, making it subject to local import tariffs and higher shipping costs.

“We would like to offer EV2, however, production out of Slovakia does present some hurdles when it comes to logistics and cost, so it is highly unlikely,” said a Kia Australia spokesperson in February.

Kia Europe has also confirmed that the EV2 will be showcased in Brussels alongside new flagship GT versions of the EV3, EV4 Hatch and EV5 – none of which have been revealed in full production form yet.

In October, Kia teased the EV4 GT with a camouflaged prototype, which boasted a more aggressive bodykit, 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, and eye-catching lime green accents throughout.

Britain’s Autocar reported at the time that the EV4 GT will be powered by a dual-motor electric drivetrain outputting around 300kW, making it good for a 0-100km/h acceleration time of five seconds. Sports bucket seats and flourishes of lime should also feature inside the cockpit.

The smaller EV3 GT is understood to get a slightly less powerful 250kW dual-motor drivetrain and a 0-100km/h dash of under six seconds. Less is known about the EV5 GT, but we’d expect the EV4 GT’s drivetrain to slot under the larger SUV body, though it’s worth noting Kia Australia’s Chinese-produced models differ from Europe’s Korean-sourced ones.

More information will come to light when Kia Europe holds its press conference on the morning of January 9 at the Brussels show, which runs over January 10-18 in the Belgian captial.
