Multiple BMWs recalled due to fire risk

BMW Australia has recalled 273 vehicles across its X3 mid-size SUV and 5 Series sedan model lines, due to a fault which can result in a vehicle fire.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, an electrical connection within the vehicle’s starter generator may not have been assembled to specifications. This could cause a sudden loss of power whilst driving,” the German carmaker said in its recall notice.

“In addition, a faulty connection may also generate excessive heat, which could lead to a vehicle fire.

“A sudden loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.”
