Mercedes-AMG is Giving Americans Another Hot Wagon

Americans don’t see wagon versions of performance cars like Europeans do, but fast long-roof models occasionally make their way here, including the Audi RS6 and new BMW M5. Mercedes has long offered the AMG E63 S wagon here in the States, but we’ve missed out on some of the automaker’s other offerings. That’s changing next year with the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 Wagon, and while it’s not a full-fat AMG like the 63-level cars, it’s still worth getting excited about.

It doesn’t have a V8, but the E53 sports an electric motor paired with an inline-six-cylinder engine, and it’s not lacking power. Output lands at 577 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, which boosts to 604 horsepower using the Race Start launch control system. That output is good for a 3.8-second 0-60 mph time, and the top speed reaches 174 mph with options equipped.

BMW made waves when it announced the new M5 wagon’s curb weight, but Mercedes has so far remained quiet about the E53, which is expected to outweigh the sedan’s already-hefty 4,244-pound weight. Despite the added pounds, the E53 Wagon isn’t intended to be as all-out bonkers as the E63, so it will be a middle-ground alternative with a lower price and slightly less intense performance than the Audi RS6 or BMW M5.

We don’t have pricing details for the new wagon yet, but it should sell for a bit more than the E53 sedan, which costs around $90,000. It will likely undercut the BMW and Audi wagons, however, which reach deep into six-figure territory.
