2025 Geely EX5: EV newcomer gunning for budget rivals in leaked Australian pricing

Pricing for Geely’s first electric SUV in Australia has been leaked online, showing the new EX5 will undercut most rivals by a significant margin.

Industry guide Redbook has published an opening price of $43,490 before on-road costs for the base-spec Geely EX5 Complete, significantly undercutting rivals like the Tesla Model Y ($63,400 before on-roads) and Leapmotor C10 ($45,888 before on-roads).

It also splits the difference between the newly introduced BYD Atto 3 Essential at $39,990 before on-roads and its top-spec Premium alternative at $44,990 before on-roads – though that SUV is smaller.

The range-topping Geely EX5 Inspire will reportedly cost $47,490 before on-roads, and examples have already started arriving locally ahead of the first customer deliveries next month.

“While pricing is an important aspect of our strategy, it is just one part of the comprehensive value we offer, which includes warranties, aftersales support, partnerships, and special offers,” said a Geely Australia spokesperson when asked for confirmation on Redbook’s pricing.

“We are excited to share all the details at our official launch in March!”

Though many products from Geely-owned brands like Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr are already on sale in Australia, this is the first vehicle from the namesake Geely Auto brand since the small MK was distributed by a third party over a decade ago in Western Australia.

The EX5 is launching in Australia with two trim levels but just one drivetrain: a 160kW/320Nm front-mounted electric motor hooked up to a 60.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.

Claimed range on the WLTP cycle is quoted at up to 430km for the base model on 18-inch wheels (410km for the top-spec Inspire with 19s), with combined energy consumption quoted at between 15.8-16.6kWh/100km.

Measuring 4615mm long and 1901mm wide with a 2750mm wheelbase, the Geely EX5 is almost identical in length to a Toyota RAV4 but is wider with a longer wheelbase. It’s also smaller than a Model Y in both length and width.

Standard equipment on the base Complete includes leatherette upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, LED lighting front and rear, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are missing at launch but will be added as part of an over-the-air software update at a later date.

The flagship Inspire adds a panoramic sunroof, a 13.4-inch head-up display, 16-speaker premium audio, ventilated front seats, and a reclining lounge chair for the front passenger with a leg rest.

Beyond the Tesla Model Y and Leapmotor C10, other key rivals for Geely’s electric SUV include the BYD Sealion 7, Deepal S07, and Xpeng G6.
