2026 Kia EV4: Korean Tesla Model 3 rival teased ahead of imminent reveal

The Kia EV4 electric sedan has been officially teased in production form for the first time ahead of its unveiling later this month, as the Korean carmaker prepares to battle the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal.

Kia has released three images of the upcoming EV4, which is set to feature some of the design elements of the brand’s existing electric vehicle (EV) lineup, as well as the Cerato-replacing K4.

It’ll unveil the EV4 at its 2025 EV Day, to be held on February 27.

“We are keen and have our hand up, however EV4 hasn’t been confirmed for Australia as yet,” said a Kia Australia spokesperson.

The images also show a more refined, production-ready version of the 2023 Concept EV4’s design elements, such as its vertical headlights and daytime running lights, plus a sloping rear window.

Previous spy shots have shown the EV4 – like the K4 – will be available in both sedan and hatchback styles. Most of Kias EVs are SUVs, apart from the boxy Ray EV microcar and Bongo III trucks sold in Korea.

While the EV6 is arguably a large liftback, it’s classified as an SUV.

The EV4 may appear similar to the K4 in design but there are distinct elements which set them apart, such as the shape of their tail lights.

Interior photos of camouflaged EV4s have shown a cabin with a digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen in a single assembly, as well as a button-light centre console.

The EV4 concept car was revealed alongside the EV3, suggesting the pair will share platforms.

Kia’s EV3 uses a front-wheel drive version of the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP EV architecture – found in the EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 among others – with a dual-motor all-wheel drive version also in the works.

The front-wheel drive EV3 Standard Range and Long Range models use a front-mounted electric motor with 150kW of power and 283Nm of torque.

The former has a 58.3kWh battery, while the latter has an 81.4kWh battery. All models have a 400V electrical architecture, unlike the 800V underpinnings of most E-GMP based vehicles.

While we don’t yet know its official outputs and dimensions, the Kia EV4 is expected to be similarly sized as the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal, two of the best-selling EVs in Australia.
