The upcoming 2026 MG S6 EV was spied testing in camo in Australian in February, seen in patent renders in May, and then revealed in Australian government certification documents published in July, and now the Chinese auto brand’s answer to the Tesla Model Y can be seen from more angles in these images leaked after European crash testing.
Yet to be officially unveiled but already confirmed for Australian release next year, the MG S6 EV is a longer version of the existing MG S5 EV small electric SUV, and is set to rival a host of mid-size electric SUVs led by the top-selling Model Y and Chinese models like the Zeekr 7X, BYD Sealion 7, Geely EX5 and Xpeng G6.
The exterior and interior of the MG S6 EV was revealed in full after it underwent crash testing by the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), which awarded it a maximum five-star safety rating – and published images of the all-new model in full before its formal unveiling.

As we already know, the exterior design of the MG S6 EV shows it’s clearly related to the smaller MG S5 EV, which went on sale in Australia earlier this year in a four-grade model lineup priced from $40,490 drive-away.
The S5 and S6 both feature slim headlights and aggressive air intakes in their lower front bumpers, reminiscent of the MG 4 electric hatch and the Cyberster electric sports car also available here.
The two electric SUVs share the same Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which also underpins the MG 4.
The Euro NCAP testing also revealed parts of the MG S6 EV’s cabin, including its compact digital instrument cluster. It also appears the S6 will remain a five-seat SUV, without third-row seating as in the new Tesla Model Y L sold in China.
The safety rating from Euro NCAP – which shares data and results with the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) – is applicable to both left-hand drive vehicles and right-hand drive versions for Australia.
The MG S6 EV’s crash test results – including 92 per cent for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child occupant protection, 84 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 78 per cent for safety assist – were better than those of the S5, which achieved a five-star ANCAP rating earlier this year.
The MG S6 EV is expected to be priced between the MG S5 and IM Motor’s similarly sized IM6 premium electric SUV, which starts at $60,990 drive-away.
Dubbed ‘IM Presented by IM Motor’ in Australia, IM Motor is a luxury sister brand launched by MG here earlier this year, with competitors including BYD’s Denza and GWM’s Wey brands.
Australian certification documents confirm the MG S6 EV will come in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive formats like its key competitors, with a choice of 62.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NCM) battery packs.
Entry-level variants are expected to be rear-drive with the smaller battery pack, and flagship versions are likely to employ the larger battery and a dual-motor set-up to offer all-wheel drive.
The dual-motor AWD powertrain will comprise a 119kW front motor and a 180kW rear motor, for a combined output of 266kW.
