The Lucid Gravity Will Offer 400 kW Charging Speeds and Tesla Supercharger Access

Depending on where you live, finding an EV fast charger could be like finding a needle in a haystack, and when you do, charging at anywhere near the advertised speeds is hit or miss. Finding a charger that can take advantage of Lucid’s new Gravity SUV might be impossible, however, as the upcoming EV promises 400 kW fast charging, which surpasses the speediest public chargers we have now.

While some EVs offer an 800-volt electrical architecture, most have a 400-volt system. Lucid gave the Gravity a 926-volt architecture, which allows it to add 200 miles of driving range in less than 12 minutes on a fast charger. This is impressive, but it’s less than half of the SUV’s massive 450-mile driving range.

That said, reaching those speeds requires a 1000-volt charger, but Lucid noted that it can still hit speeds of up to 225 kW on lower-voltage chargers. The Gravity will also have Tesla Supercharger access, greatly expanding the number of fast chargers available in some areas. Lucid said its first vehicle, the Air sedan, would gain access to the Supercharger network in the second quarter of this year.

The Lucid Gravity is available for reservation now, starting at $94,900. A less expensive Touring model will become available for order later this year for $79,900. While far from cheap, those prices are in line with other high-end EVs, but none of the others offer the Gravity’s range or charging speeds.
