My story begins in the early 1950s. While stationed in Germany, I bought a Porsche and drove on the autobahn (where there is no speed limit) at a speed of over 100 miles per hour. That feeling and the love of cars has been with me my entire life.
Wanting to own a one-of-a-kind vehicle is a car lover’s dream, but most people say you have to be very rich to do so. I am definitely not very rich, but I do own a one-of-a-kind and, according to the documents, I have the only one ever made.
In the 1970s an independent company known as the Marquis Coach Company built a 1974 Cadillac Mozelle that was supposed to be a prototype. They only built one.
That car was sold to a very wealthy businessman in the state of Michigan. The new owner later put the car up for sale in an auction. Several well-known individuals were sent letters telling them that the car was for sale. According to articles in the newspaper, the bidding was the highest ever recorded at that auction, but the car did not sell.
Later it was discovered that the car was not a prototype, but it seemed to have disappeared. In 2015 I heard about the car and was able to purchase it. I am not rich, but I have a one-of-one – and that is only part of the story.
