toyota may actually release its long awaited gr powered supercar

Toyota and Lexus have been teasing wild-looking supercars for years, but we might finally see one of them head to production. Toyota recently shared images of Fuji Speedway in Japan, showing a couple of its iconic sports cars, along with a GR-badged supercar.

The caption on Toyota’s X post reads, “On the right is the 2000GT, next to it is the LFA, and next to that is…?” Toyota has hinted at the car before, but this feels a little different. The cars have been spotted testing multiple times and has turned up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, so it certainly seems like something is coming.

As for specs, the automaker will likely employ a hybrid V8 with twin turbos, and it is expected to sport acres of carbon fiber bodywork over an aluminum chassis. While we don’t have any number to associate with that configuration, hybrid power and a twin-turbo V8 should put the Toyota in direct competition with some real heavy hitters. Toyota is expected to reveal the new GR supercar next Monday, ahead of the Japan Mobility Show.

The Lexus LFA was Toyota’s last effort in the supercar realm, and it remains a highly valuable and sought-after car. While the new GR supercar will almost certainly be quicker and offer performance improvements in every possible area, it won’t have the LFA’s sound or presence, which helped make it the icon it is today.
