AutoHunter Spotlight: 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302

For eight seasons between 1984 and 1992, Tony Danza and Judith Light starred in an ABC television sitcom called “Who’s the Boss?” The show was nominated for 10 Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes, winning one of each.

Over the years, Ford has had a “Boss” of its own. During model years 2012 and 2013, it was clear which pony car was the boss of the Mustang lineup.

And today, we get to meet that head honcho:

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 12K-Mile 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. The car is being offered by a dealer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the auction will end tomorrow, Thursday, January 23. Consider this announcement time-sensitive!

The Competition Orange pony car is one of just 73 manufactured in its color for the year. But that vivid color is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its special equipment: Added to the high-performance recipe are grippy Recaro seats, adjustable struts, a rear stabilizer bar, Brembo brake rotors and a quad-outlet exhaust system. Best of all, the car has just 12,797 miles on the odometer and has remained unmodified.

Marketed and sold from 2005 through 2014, the “S197” generation of the Mustang was originally designed by Sid Ramnarace. Although born in Canada, Ramnarace worked with Ford in Dearborn, Michigan on a number of influential vehicle designs, including the 11th-generation Thunderbird, the Edge sport-utility vehicle and the popular third-generation Explorer.

During the S197 Mustang era, the “Boss 302” high-performance variant was launched as a revival of a nameplate that dated back to the 1960s. Power comes from a high-performance 5.0-liter V8 that was rated at 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Control is managed through an MT-82 six-speed manual transmission and a solid rear axle with a limited-slip differential. The Boss 302 powertrain came with enhancements that set it apart from standard-issue Mustangs: Among the features were CNC-machined heads, revised camshafts, a short-runner composite intake manifold, lightened valvetrain components, solid lifters and forged aluminum pistons.

The CARFAX report for this low-miler shows accident-free history that started at Mossy Ford in San Diego, California, and eventually headed east to Florida (and later Michigan) in 2021. The most recent odometer reading was 12,797 in July 2024. According to the records, the car has been well-maintained throughout life: There are 19 records shown, the majority of which have been logged by dealerships.

If you want to be large and in charge, buying a Boss Mustang is one way you can feel like you got a massive promotion in life. Place your bid today.

The auction for this 12K-Mile 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 will end Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. (MST).
